Default 1970 fuel system

hello all, I'm kinda in a bind and hoping someone here will have the info we need to get a car running. We are building a car for the demolition derby, and have installed a fuel tank between the back seat and the trunk. our assumption was that since there was only one fuel line, and it's a carborated engine it would be a mechanical fuel pump. upon installing our new tank, and running the lines, we tried to start the car. to our surprise fuel came out of the original fuel lines.... We then took a closer look at the fuel tank and found wires going to it. That would mean that there is a electric fuel pump in the tank, no? is it a full time pump or just a priming pump? we will have to find a way to bypass all the original fuel delivery system. anybody no anything about this? Oh, and it's a 1970 ford fairlane with a straight six. thanks

[sm=welcomesign.gif]I have looked up the farline in the auto parts site and it take's a mechanical fuel pump.[hr]Altho some one may have changed the tank.[hr]If you are building this car for a demolition derby you will have to remove it any way.
