Default 2000 Tauras SEL activate door locks

Just bought a 2000 Taurus SEL for my daughter. We finally located the factory code (behind fuse box under dash to left of steering column) and got it to unlock doors. However, it won't lock them. Can someone please help with this. Even the inside door switches will only unlock but not lock.

This system most likely has 2 different problems (could be wrong), but I do know that the doors have to work correctly from the door switch to have any chance of working correctly at all.
On a 2k Taurus, I'd start be checking the door switches and look very, very closely at the wiring in the door where it goes through to the car; these were really common areas that always caused problems.

Agree with greasemark. Test the switch first then the wiring in the door bellows.

When I use the interior door lock switches, they unlock but only make a click noise when I try to lock. Same as with the key pad. It makes a sound like they are trying to lock but actually looks like it is pushing the locks upward instead of down to lock. Both drivers door and passenger door lock switches do the same. I will check the wiring. Thanks.

What would the key code be for activating the program. I have the code for deactivating it (factory code followed by hold the 7/8 button down while pushing the 3/4 button) It worked. I just haven't seen the code for activating it. My daughter is getting tired of me telling her to "I can fix it, just give me time." : )

Do you have an Owners Manual? It starts on page 67. If you do not have one, go to www.fleet.ford.com Then click on maintenance tab, then enter the information for your vehicle. Download the manual. It is free. Good luck.

Thank you way2old. I was able to find the info I needed. However, the doors still won't lock. I think a relay is bad. I can push the lock button inside and hear a click noise under the dash. It sounds like a blinker when they make a noise. I plan to search more info regarding the relay now. Any help out there?

I will try.
You might try to check from the central junction box(CJB) under the left side dash, there should be door lock and door unlock relays. Both are controlled via the (GEM) generic electronic module. The wire coming from the door lock relay to the door lock motors is a pink/black wire. I would agree there may be an open wire there. Now all you need to do is find it. As previously stated it could very well be in the door wiring that goes through the bellows.
