2001 F250 throttle goes inop
I just bought this with 7.3 diesel and sometimes the throttle pedal goes dead and the check engine light will come on. If I try to push the pedal, nothing happens. I usually wait a second or two & light goes off & it starts working again. It usually happens after a stop when trying to proceed again. It has never happened under acceleration. I'm afraid this could be dangerous in certain situations, like turning across traffic or something. Any help or ideas is greatly appreciated! Thanks
It just did it again and I noticed the service engine light does not necessarily come on everytime this happens.

The throttle control is 'fly by wire' meaning the engine speed is electronically controlled.. Incorporated into the accelerator pedal assembly is an idle validation switch, and a output potentiometer that varies a signal voltage depending on the throttle demand once the pedal moves off the idle/released position.. The PCM uses the signal to calculate fuel delivery and engine speed..
Could be that the pedal assembly has a drop out, or that there's a harness/pin connection issue, or even a PCM problem.. Most times it the pedal assembly, sometimes circuit problems.. Might check the connections of the pedal assembly and/or any visable harness problems, and the idle validation switch for free movement..

2001 F250 throttle goes inop - corrected!
I had forgotten all about replying back to this thread. I took your advice back then and if I remember correctly, the pedal assembly had come loose and was not grounded properly. At least that's what I surmised after checking. I tightened it up and had no more problems after that. Thanks
