2003 F350 Front axile problem?
Hello - my F350 superduty (6.0 Diesel, auto trans, 4X4, long bed) is being wierd! When I turn left or right at slow speeds (5mph or less), it shakes the steering wheel. It acts like the front end is engaged and I'm driving on hard pavement! This happens when I pull into a parking lot getting ready to back into my spot. I'm maybe doing 5 when I make the turn. Yes it is a full turn, steering when all the way over. If I back off some, it stops (acts normal). I don't think this is right .
This past summer while carring our camper, I took a wrong turn and found us going up a steep , twisty, one lane residential street. Again the front end felt like I had it in 4 wheel drive (of course it is not). I thought something was going to break before I finally got turned around.
Normal driving - it is just fine. Just had ball joints put in at the dealership. Tight turns - not so good and going up a steep hill with a load on the back - ccamper weighs 4K and I also tow a '75 CJ5 - really not a good feeling! Something is going to BREAK!
Any thoughts of where I should start?
Thanks //Bill

I have taken apart the locking hubs on my '75 CJ, but not Ford hubs. On the jeep with the hubs disengaged, the front drive shaft will turn by hand. Is the same true on the truck? And if it is supposed to but doesn't, then something is probably wrong with the manual locking hubs?

So I crawled under the truck tonight and the front drive shaft turns. I don't feel anything - a tight spot or a catch or anything like that. It just goes round and round.
If something was wrong in either the hubs or transfer case, would the drive shaft still be free?
Just because the drive shaft does go around, could there still be somehthing going on with the hubs? I should pull them - right?
Thanks //Bill

If one hub is locked it would still turn jack up front and turn wheels one at a time and see if one of the axles turn when spinning wheels by hand you could just jack one side at a time if that is easier for you just don't forget to use jack stands IF ONE OF THE AXLES TURN THAT ONE IS LOCKED IN
