Default 2005 f 350 stalling

I have a 2005 f350 4x4 and just changed the battery and ever since then when backing up the truck stalls and also stalls when the steering wheel is hard over in one direction while backing up. Any ideas out there.

Sometimes when the PCM loses it's KAM (keep alive memory) as when the battery is disconnected, it takes a while for the PCM to adapt. Be patient and it just may correct itself after driving a few times. In the meantime if you never cleaned the throttle body (no solvents just a rag) it's a good maintenance item.

If this has the electronic throttle body, be very careful when cleaning. Make sure the plates spring back to closed when you push them open. If not, you may need a throttle body.

If the problem doesn't correct itself, it might be a good idea to have the PCM checked for any history codes.
We probably should have told you if the vehicle has the "drive by wire system" , with the key off if you depress the throttle pedal and the butterfly in the throttle body moves, it's a mechanical system and not an electronic system.

One idea worth a try, but only AFTER the codes are read (Autozone will do it for free, I think) is to disconnect either battery cable, let it sit for 10 minutes, reconnect the cable and start it (DO NOT use the accelerator) and let it idle for about 5 minutes. It will force the truck to relearn it's base idle strategy.
If you do this before you reset the KAM, it will clear any pending DTC's.

Finally found out what the problem was. It was the throttle body which had to be replaced. Thanks for all the info .

Another happy Ford Customer. And to think, all it was was a $350.00 throttle body. And to think, all the other 99 years they made cars with a cable, and it WORKED with very little problem.
Makes me wonder about all this "progress".

If it wasn't for all this progress, look at all the people who would be out of a job.
