Hello everyone, I tried searching to see if there were any issues like this but didnt find any.
My van had a stutter when im driving down the road and press on the gas slightly. It only does this when the AC is on and it appears to be worse when it is hotter outside. I took it to the Ford dealer and they said the transmission needed to be replaced. It seems strange that the transmission needs replaced when it only has the stutter while the ac is running. Even when its cold outside and I turn on the defrosters, it has a stutter.
Anyone have any ideas or could the Ford dealer be correct?

You may not be aware when you turn on the defrosters the air conditioning compressor is usually turned on to to help remove moisture from the windshield.

The problem could be with the torque converter. When ever we get a high cost estimate it is good practice to get a few estimates even if you have to pay for them. Could save more than the cost of estimates.

 

Sure seems strange to me too. Having a dealer put in a new tranny would likely cost more than the car is worth where I am.

I am with Hanky ^^^, go to another dealer for your next oil change and also ask them to diagnose the stutter (don't mention other dealer's thoughts); diagnoses commonly cost an hour labor. Also could: post a video / sound of the stutter from your phone and tell how many miles, what engine/tranny and what engine maintenance you know has been done.
