Default 2007 Ford escape trailer light issue...Help!

I purchased the Escape new in 2007 and had Ford install the hitch and wiring there before I took it home. Today I hooked up the same trailer I have used for years and NO brake lights on the trailer. Turn signals work fine but no brake lights. I tested the flat 4 prong plug for the trailer and nothing when the brakes are on. They work as they should on the truck. I am confused since the turn signals both work. Please help!

Another thought comes to mind, if you tested for power in the stop light wiring at the plug on the vehicle with a test light could you not have had a good ground for the test light?

Check all the grounds , the one at the plug on the vehicle and the ground connections on the trailer .

Thanks for the reply...,I checked the grounds but since both the signals light the test light as well as the park lights, I wouldn't think the ground is the problem. Is there a seperate fuse or relay for only the trailer brake lights?

There could very well be a separate relay.
I have been fooled more than once when one circuit used another circuit for it's ground.
Do the hazard flashers work properly on the trailer?

It turned out the module was bad. It was a Ford part and was actually spliced into the wiring behind the side panel in the back. We replaced the entire system with an aftermarket one that simply plugged into the light sockets and all is well and a lot cheaper than the Ford system....Thanks
