Default 351C heads

will 351C heads fit onto a 351W block? if so what can I expect, performancewise? Also, I have some 351M pistons. Can I fit all this together to get an engine that doesnt destroy itself. I found all these parts in the garage and I have recently disassembled a waterlogged 351W, which is where the block came from.

No and No and you would be better off to build up the 351w there a strong bottom end motor. get a good PAIR of heads like 69s 58cc
500-512 cam. I have made 475 hp from these engines and they run very strong

ok thanks for the info. what kind of pistons & cam do you think should I use? where would I be able to buy them? I'd be happy with 300+ HP. I have headers.

Well you could go to engine shop tell them what you want. like trw pistons maybe a crane cam not to big 500 lift. stock rods are fine. if your going to use alum intake and carb 650 or 750 holly.with a little know how you can do the head porting yourself just to match gaskets.and set of headers you have 300 horse. now if you want to bore it out i wouldn't go over '40' ford don't like alot of overbore.[and above all keep it clean] ok

Hi; well yes but they have dome pistons too flat tops have 4 valve releases on top and
10.5 is good but remember the cc of the heads as that will change your compression 58 cc more compression 69 cc less and so on.. in 69 and 70 a few 351w had 345 hp in the mustangs those are good heads they were ported from factory if you can find a pair. i used 1969 heads 58cc with Keith black pistons 70cc domed[some call them popups] that give very high compression 13.7to1 and yes had to use c12 racing fuel. that was in my pinto race only. i hope this helps anything else just ask if i can help i will..

i'll check the heads i have for displacement then pick the pistons accordingly. i read that unleaded gas shouldnt be run if CR is greater than 9.5 or so. where do you get racing fuel from? can i add 10% alcohol to get a higher octane rating?

Ya i think your heads might be whats called smog heads big chamber 73cc small ports they came out in 1977 to lower compression.as far unleaded fuel go's I ran it for many years in 73 comet GT 302 with 10.5 flat tops car ran 12.80 at the track. every day driver in summer. and you can buy octane boost just about anywhere.
alcohol' Don't know to much about it cant see it raising octane flash point is low. Racing fuel you can buy at some speed shops just ask around. look at the top end of your engine as a pump the more gas and air you get to the pistons at the right time the more power... i just changed my posts to read 58cc not 53 ..... 53cc head came on small 221--260ci fords sorry about that..

i've been assuming the engine i pulled was a 351w because that's what the previous owner told me. now i'm not even sure. how would i confirm whether this block is a 351 or a 302? the crank journals are 2.31 and 3.01
