Question 93 Mustang 4cyl - Engine Light On

Yesterday, my cars check engine light came on. My friend came over with a scanner and it was throwing 6 different codes:

Key On Engine Off:
124, 223, and 224

Key On Engine Running:
412, 411, 538

We found a list of codes, and 3 of them have to do with the car not being able to register RPMs at any level, the others we're kind of clueless on. Pretty sure I have to replace the Throttle Position Sensor, but that is about as far as our research lead us.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Why don't you take it somewhere where they read codes for free just to see what they come up with?

Go to Auto Zone and have them check it. They can give you a print out of whats the mostly likley cause of of your problems are.

124 (Memory code) = TP voltage was higher than expected - Fuel control

223 (Memory code) = Dual Plug (DPI), SPOUT or IDM circuit fault - Ignition Systems

224 (Memory code) = Failure in ignition coil primary circuit - Ignition Systems

411 (Key On Engine Run code) = Idle speed system not controlling idle properly (generally idle too high) - ISC

412 (Key On Engine Run code) = Idle speed system not controlling idle properly (generally idle too low) - ISC

538 (Key On Engine Run code) = System did not receive "goose" test - TESTS

I would check the Throttle Position sensor (Take DVM readings) and also check/clean the Idle Air Controller. Then clear the memory codes and start fresh to see what comes back.
