96 Ford Ranger A/C
Beside the obvious (it aint working continuously) how can I check to see if my A/C compressor is going out?
Been this way for years and just too lazy to check it out. Today was a scorcher and driving nearly 100 miles just isn't nice.
A/C will kick on and off intermittently with a mind of its own. I know the refrigerant is up to date and it registers full.
The condenser does not seem to show any signs of distress.
At one time my clutch on the compressor would go crazy.
This is an after market A/C but done at the Ford dealership with OEM.
Any suggestions?

What do you mean by "Refrigerant is up to date"? Also, what do you mean by "It registers full"? Did you put a gage set on the LOW and HIGH sides and get the readings? If using gage set, what was the ambient temperature? The compressor kicking in and out is usually a sign that the refrigerant charge is borderline low.
