Camper Ejected Itself and Truck Wont Start... HELP!!!!
EXHIBIT A: 1991 Ford F150 XLT Lariat, 5.8 EFI 351 Windsor w/non working remote start
OK, let me explain my fiasco... its a doosey.
Back in late august I made a colossal **** of myself by trying to go home down the road a couple miles.. without properly hooking up my '74 truck camper.
...I made it about 70 ft and due to my inability to resist the sound of my engine promptly ejected the newly restored camper out the box of the truck and onto the road. Please take a moment to stop laughing.
NOW, when the 1200 lb camper slid out, the over-the-cab part hit the bedrails about 16 inches from the back of the box... put some nice dents in there let me tell ya. As if that wasnt bad enough - my beloved truck quit working then and hasnt ran ever since. *sigh
In all the excitement of getting the camper off the highway before my friends drove by I failed to realize what precisely happened in the truck’s last few moments. I will tell you all I do know and what I have tried to remedy this bastard of a situation I've found myself in.
- I THINK the truck ran when the incident occurred, perhaps a 10-30 seconds. At which point I pulled it over and shut it off.
- I had a neighbour of mine go and get the truck. She doesnt know a thing about vehicles... she came back to me and said it wouldnt start for her at all (she described it as though it was flooding). This didnt seem right because this engine is fuel injected
- After a few weeks of grieving I went back and tried to diagnose the problem. I tried to establish spark by grounding one spark plug and found no spark (though this test wasnt conducted very accurately I dont think, will try tomorrow with fresh charged battery and a good set of eyes).
- In order to explain the "apparent" lack of spark we put a brand new ignition coil in it. However I think this was unnecessary because after the fact we put a volt meter on the coil and THINK there is no power there at all. (later, I tried to jump battery leads to the coil directly... without any result). By the way... it does turn over well but will not fire at all, even with ether... therefore there is no spark... right?
- I listened for the fuel pump when ignition was clicked forward and did not hear anything at all..... I did some research and thought that I should check the inertia switch. After a bunch of muckin around I found it and what do you know! No problem there either!!
- I then tried to check the fuel pump by grounding a plug in my computer diagnosis harness (connector#6 I beleive). I did not hear any fuel pump when I did this. (duel tanks by the way). Then I checked the relay for the fuel pump. Was about to get it to "click" but only received a spike of about 6 volts when power was removed... might have buggered it though as polarity may have been reversed accidentally... will go and replace that now eh?
So now I am sick and tired of stabbing in the dark. I am doing what I should have a long time ago. I am ASKING FOR HELP!!!
If you need more info I will be checking this 2-3 times a day and can run out to the truck to check things. Please help me figure this out. Cheers everyone!
