Had airbag recall work done this week on 2010 Edge. Notice battery had NOT been disconnected as I had all radio presets preserved.

QUESTION: Don't you have to disconnect the battery to replace defective airbag component on 2010 Edge?
Needless to say there are various opinions ranging from "no you do not need to disconnect the battery" to "Of course you need to..."

I appreciate if some Ford techs could answer this for me. In advance, I appreciate your time and assistance.
