Needle valve(s) not closing all the way in the float bowl cause by worn needle seat(s) or saturated float(s) allowing more fuel than needed to drip. Rebuild time?

Thank you for your response. I just rebuilt the carb. for the second time thinking
I did something wrong. The carb. has no miles on the rebuild. I just put the motor
in the last two months. Could it be a problem with metering rods? Is it possible buy
just the rods and or springs alone or will I have get a new carb.?

Could be the metering rods. Don't know if you can only get pieces alone. I would probably price the difference between new and reconditioned units. I would also base the decision on how old the carb is and how many miles are on it along with the fact that the new units are a little more fuel efficient over their older counterparts.

I found out from my parts supply today that they do sell metering rods alone for about $4 a piece, they are Edlebrock
but they are supposed to fit the Carter AFB. I will pick up
a pair tomorrow and find out. I have one more Question
you might be able to help me with. The motor I just put together is a 73 390. The previous ownerput a cam in it that is
one step above stock and this Carter AFB carb. I have been
told I need to advance the timing more than the 6 degrees
called out for stock, but no one knows how much. Is this correct, and do you know how far it should be?
Thanks for all your help. I will let you know if the new metering
rods work out.
