Central Un-Lock reprogramming
Recently purchase a 07 Mercury Montego (Ford 500) and intended to ask this at first oil change.
While I don't have a problem with all doors locking upon initial acceleration, is there any way to have all doors unlock when exiting any door? The instructions in the owners manual to disable the entire feature of locking on acceleration. When I worked as a salesman at Lexus, we had a computer that would hook up to the EPROM unit and "all doors unlocking" was one of the features we could change from the default.
Frankly, I am getting tired of getting out of the car and retrieving something from the back seat - only to find the door locked. Also, as a Realtor it is a great car for hauling customers around in, but they are not impressed when they are locked in the back seat and have to manually unlock the door at each stop if I forget to hit the master button.
While having the doors locked may be considered a safety issue - keeping a hijacker from jumping in the back seat - it has never happened in my 30+ years of driving. All in all, the auto lock feature is potentially benificial so I don't want to disable it like the owners manual instructs. But, we should have the option on exiting one door unlocks all four.
