A few years ago I came across a web page that gave me some good info. I thought I would share it. I know this works on the 2000 f150 and have heard it works on several other vehicles. If you push in and hold in the trip reset button then turn the key to the on position without starting your vehicle your odometer will flash after about 10 seconds. Release the reset button and now you can use that same button to scroll , if you will, through some very basic engine information. It will tell you engine size and some other info. I have been told it will list the codes also, another way to retrieve your codes if you do not have an OBD scanner. I hope this helps some folks out there I know it was a great help to me at one time, do thought I would share the info.

 

Putting the cluster in self test diagnostic mode does have some vehicle info and data, and cluster unit test capability, but doesn't output for OBD DTC's for powertrain etc.
