Did the shop mess up? Timing retarded, then advanced...
Hey All,
I've got a 1998 Ford Contour with 94K, 2.0 ZETEC 4 cyl. engine. The timing belt snapped, so I had it into the shop for repair (New father, so time is thin these days). At the time, it was showing codes P0171 (Lean condition, Bank one) and P1383 (cam position time overretard). The lean condition code pre-existed the timing belt problem, but I figured perhaps it was somehow related to the belt.
The new timing belt was completed, along with tensioner and pullys,, and NOW the scanner shoes p1381, which is cam position timing overadvanced. The lean code continues to persist.
Did the shop mess this one up? I've heard the VCTs in these cars can go - could that be the problem?
Any help would be much appreciated!
