If the head gasket is the only concern,I'd replace the head gasket

Acutally, I believe it will. The thing to look for is if they look the same; the 2005 could be a 2 valve (which I don't think it was), and the 2007 is most likely a 3 valve; the valve covers should both be aluminum, if this is a direct swap.
The other thing to look for is the engine mounts size, shape, and attachement to the engine and body. They must match up.
I think this is a straight swap and should work well. You might have to change the intake manifold around from engine to engine, but it should be out for the exchange anyway.

If I am correct, I do not believe it will. The 07 I believe is the 3rd generation while the 97 is the 1st. that would mean at the very least the sensors are not going to communicate with the computer and likely the wiring harness will not match up. But I will do a little more research on that and get back if no one else posts a positive answer.

Sorry, but according to what i have found I must agree with Lars. The work involved in changing the 07 to fit the 97 is just not worth it. You could rebuild the 97 easier.

*Note: if you installed a block sealer or some form of stop leak, PLEASE have your coolant system flushed thoroughly.
