Default Expedition smells like cigars after turned off

We don't smoke at all. However, the last 4 days my 2007 expedition smells strong like burnt cigars when we get in. After turning the car on and driving it slowly starts to go away. Once we park and come back it smells again. Engine light has not been on. All electrical is running good. No strange sounds. No drips under the car when parked.

Any ideas?

Welcome to the site

If it doesn’t smell chemical or electrical, possible rodent debris burning off?

But it has been happening for 3 days now. It smells like cigar smoke when I get in. Once I start the car it slowly goes away - or at least it seems that way. Smell is back as soon as the car is turned off. It so bizarre.

I have a 2006 Ford focus same exact thing it smells like cigars for the first few miles and goes away, did you ever figure out the cause. It is very bizzare.

Once you are able to determine the location where the odor is strongest some body is going to have to go deeper into the area/system to pin down exactly what is going on.
If it is involving 3rd partys the sooner you have it taken care of the better. If you do have visitors that have taken up residence, it can get quite troublesome especially if they have young ones and they die in there. Let's hope this is not the case.

Sometimes leaves and other debris can get into the heating/ventilation system and can provide the same odor if heated and can't get out.
