Ford 2002 Escape Reverse Beep

Ford 2002 Escape Reverse Beep
I love my Escape, but hate the nanny that beeps at me from under the dashboard when I engage reverse gear, or when anyone opens the door with the key still in the ignition. It's a piece of technology that I just don't need or want.
I've opened up the dash and found the beeper in the instrument panel. Shoved some putty in the beeper hole to at least quieten the damn thing! It helps, but doesn't quite satisfy.
I spoke to a Ford mechanic wondering if it could be re-programmed to beep only if I leave the lights on when exiting (don't really even need that) or disabled. No such luck apparently.
Has anyone shut their beeper up successfully? I would like a solution that I could reverse when selling the vehicle, just in case someone out there thinks a beeper is a good idea!
PS, I'm new to the forum, but I did my homework Googling to find the answer.
