Ford E-150 Ignition troubles
Hi Everyone,
looking for suggestions, my e-150 the is having ignition problem. when I insert key into ignition cylinder and turn key the engine will not start. I pull the ignition cylinder and inserted a Phillips screwdriver and turned it and engine started, but to turn engine off I had to pull 60 amp fuse.
I tried a new ignition cylinder and it did not fix problem. I can see when I turn the key the acctuater arm move but apparently not enough. screwdriver seems to turn it slightly farther and starts engine. with key in ignition cylinder I am able to shift from park to R,D,1,2 also there is power to radio, dome light, horn etc.. even with key in off position.
so any suggestions would be be greatly appreciated and thanks.

There is a gear and rack attached to a rod that activates the ignition switch. If you tried to correct an earlier problem by replacing the key tumbler section and that didn't work you may need to disassemble the upper steering column assy and replace the worn or defective part (s). Some people just go to a boneyard and replace the whole upper portion without taking anything apart. A lot will depend on your determination as to which choice you choose , if that is the problem.
Of course you may only need to reposition the ign switch mounted on the lower steering column. If everything moves and works fine except for some adjustment of the switch, by all means go the simple route.
