Gas Gauge not working

Gas Gauge not working
I'm new to this forum. My son suggested I join this forum and ask for advice concerning my 92 Ford Economize Van. I have approximately 173000 mile on a winsor 351 motor. Slowly, and costly, I have been replacing engine parts that have bitten the dust. I love this Van and have too much invested to just trade it in. So, I'm here for some advice concerning my gas gauge.
Three weeks ago, while on vacation near Boulder City NV, the van stopped running. The mechanic advised me to replace my fuel pump and filter. I agreed and the next day we were on the road. Well, my gas gauge didn't start working until I rolled up about 250 miles, but, it never came close to being actuate. When I returned home I called the mechanic in Boulder, and he advised, the sending unit on the pump my be bad and Ford would replace it at no cost. Sure enough, my Ford dealer told me, the test he ran indicated a bad sending unit. They order the part and replaced it. When I drove the van home my gas gauge read full, and I know I had a little more then half of tank of gas. I need some advice in this matter before I talk to the Ford people again. This dealership is the same one that charged me 700.00 dollars to replace a starter. They broke a bolt off and had to redrill and tap the new one. So, you can understand my concern! Has anyone had this problem??
Thanks
Blake

RE: Gas Gauge not working
Sound's like they filled it up for you. When they replace the fuel pump they have to drop the gas tank In order to do that they have to drain it. So they have to put the gas back in . But they dont know how much(Because it's done by a pump with a 35 gallon drum). So they probly filled it.

RE: Gas Gauge not working
Thank you for your reply. I did as you suggested, filled the gas tank, with 6.7 gals . I had driven a little over 100 mile since the last fill up. So, at 15 miles per gal, you would think the gas gauge would show some movement? I have to take a trip this week, so I will double check it then. Thanks again.
