Default Grooved highway affecting handling?

I drive my 1998 Contour on I-70 East of Denver on a daily basis. The road is grooved for better traction and so that you don't hydroplane. My problem is that these grooves in the road affect my handling. It feels as though the tires try to follow the grooves in the road and it kinda jerks the car around slightly. Has anyone else ran into this problem and is there something that can be done to make this stop? I also have a 66 Mustang and it does the same thing with it?

Default RE: Grooved highway affecting handling?

It'll always do that. The tires are gripping the grooves for better traction. You could bump the tire pressure up a little not to exceed the max tire pressure stated on the sidewall and it will help some. I never run vehicle PSI listing. I always pattern my tires and usually end up being about 4-6 PSI above vehicle listed PSI. My Freestar takes grooved highways with vertually no sway movement.
