heater fan in '89 escort not working
While driving (89 escort lx) the heater fan simply turned off and won't work at any setting. If the vehicle is warm, a small amount of warmth can be felt from the defrost ducts, but no air flow. I can't defrost/defog the windows not to mention it's cold out. Driving with my window down is no longer pleasant!!!
I've searched this site and others and it seems there are a few possibilities. Problem is I can't identify the parts to check. The posts I've found seem to be for newer model vehicles. I see no blue wire on the passenger side near the firewall to check the connection. I am unsure which cables to check to see if they've been knocked off. It is next to impossible to see any cables under there in the first place. I'm not sure what the heater resistor looks like exactly. Is the heater motor in behind the glove box with an orange and black wire leaving it, mounted to the firewall with about 4 bolts? Are certain panels required to be removed to access this stuff? The fuse has not been blown.
This is frustrating, seems like there is only a couple of possibilities and the fix should be a simple one, yet I'm lost so far.
Thanks in advance...

RE: heater fan in '89 escort not working
Remove the heater resistor connector under the dash on the passenger side. You may have to remove the glove box to get access to the connector. Get a piece of jumper wire (something short like 2-4") and jump the pins on the harness connector. I can't remember which ones to jump but you can't cause a short by jumping the wrong pins. Try different combinations to see if the fan runs on high. BTW, be sure the ignition is on and heater switch is on high when you do this.
If the heater runs the problem is likely the resistor module. Just remove the screws where the connector went and pull the old one out. They commonly get corroded to the point of no conductivity. Grab one from the boneyard.

The problem is the connection to the blower motor. The orange and black wires are loose and I'm having a hard time getting the blower to stay engaged. Is the connection replaceable or does the whole motor now need replacing? The 2 wires run into a black rubber piece which then runs into the motor. It does not appear to simply unplug.
