I have a ford mondeo 1.8 lx 2001. Recently it is difficult if not next to impossible to turn the key in the ignition. Intial thought it was the key so started to use the spare which was new, but the problem is still as bad. Will I need to replace the complete ignition and get new keys, or can the barrel be replace.

 

In the past, as long as you had the key and the switch was workable, under the tumbler assy on the steering column there was a small hole in which you inserted a small pick to depress that pin and you were able to remove the tumbler assy. I don't remember which position the switch had to be in , either on or accessory and when you depressed the pin , you could feel it go in, then you removed the key and tumbler assy. Then you would line up the pieces and push in the new tumbler and it locks the tumbler in there. I don't know for sure if your vehicle is the same. Try it. ,,,,,,,,,,,,hanky
