Default Question about Edelbrock #77099 heads on a ford 302

Hello,

I just ordered a set of edelbrock 77099 Glidden/Vic heads for my 302, thinking it was going to be a bolt-on job. I'm not looking for ultra-track performance, but I wanted a decent boost over my stock, cast iron unmodified 302 heads. After receiving the heads, I read the installation instructions supplied, and there were many additional things I learned about applying these heads -- that the ports are intentionally small as these heads **require** porting. I am just wondering if they are saying small in the context of track racing? What kind of performance gains might I see in these "as cast" heads as opposed to my stock heads? I really hadn't budgeted in porting but I would hope to see a gain, at minimum of at least 50HP with these heads. Otherwise, I will send them back and save a little more.

Appreciate you advice!

Mike

you may want to talk to the place you ordered your heads from, to see if they are what you actually want.if you are looking for power the engine needs to breath. so you should have larger valves in the head like 1.90 exhaust,2.02 intake? call them back and ask questions. you are spending alot of money.
