Default Smell of coolant coming from vents

2001 Expedition 4.6L 100K miles. I am getting the smell of radiator fluid coming from the ac vents when the ac is on and off. Coolant level is OK, never been changed though. No noticable leaks. Temperature gauge is reading normal. Any ideas on what to check first or anybody had this problem?

[sm=welcomesign.gif]Your heater core may be starting to leak.

Thanks guys. I also saw there was some intermittent misty fog coming out of the vents as well. Should I try a stop leak product ?

This would be the heater core then.[hr]You can try it but it may clog the heater core.

If the heater core clogs will this stop flow through the entire cooling system or just the heater core?

If the heater core clogs will that stop flow through the entire cooling system? Is this a potential do-it-yourselp project or should this be done by the dealer?

Thanks

I had a simular problem when I lived in Florida. I didnt need to use the heater (temp never got below freezing), so I bypassed the heater core completely. I just disconnected the 2 hoses from the heater core got a plastic fitting from local hardware store and joined the 2 hoses together. Saved me a lot of money and a LOT of aggrievation of insatalling a new heater core. Never had a problem after that.
