Steering too sensitive

Steering too sensitive
I recently bought a 1995 Mercury Grand Marqui. Yes, still in line with Ford, yes? The steering is very sensitive, too touchy. I turn just a little and the car reacts however I turn it. Is there a way to stiffen the feel so I will have a little forgiveness from the steering system? The power steering pump was replaced when I bought the car.
Driving in Kuwait is hard enough to worry about the steering being too sensitive. I've got 22560R16 tires on it and she runs true and straight down the road otherwise.
Thanks for any advice.

RE: Steering too sensitive
The 225/60R-16's are correct OEM sizing. Have you had the alignment checked? If you have no TOE-IN (almost spot on zero toe), the steering will be very reactive to any light input. You need at least 1/16" toe-in on each side. Just a thought as I had this issue with my 92 Aerostar because the mechanic adjusted the alignment to a "0" toe.

RE: Steering too sensitive
Thanks for the reply. I hadn't thought of the toe in as being a possible help. I will check that next time I go down to the local (people from everywhere) area where the cars are worked on. Kuwait has a multitude of mechanics from all over the world. Labor is cheaper but we have to be careful we get quality work.
