V-6 Sportrac Coolant loss

V-6 Sportrac Coolant loss
My '02 Sportrac has 2 problems that I hope are not connected. 1 is a coolant loss with no visible leak. 2nd is a pause in cold engine cranking.
It has 100,000 on the engine with 0 problems. Found empty coolant reservoir but no visible leak. The near engine lock upat cold start feels like a hydraulic lock in the engine. It will continue to crank after a second.
Anyone familiar with any type of internal engine coolant leak? Intake gasket? Cracked head or manifold?
