Default Wheel broke off while driving

I was going no more that 10 mph when all of a sudden my wheel broke off. I'm not really sure what it broke of off, but I am not able to move my car at all. My question is whether I can fix this myself, or if I have to take it to a mechanic. If I have to take it to a mechanic how much would it cost with parts and labor. Thanks in advance.

It doesn't look like it broke off to me...just a stripped bolt caused the linkage to come undone.

it looks like a lower ball joint to me and yes it can be fixed by you if you know how to do it and have the right tools

I agree with Grindman.
That lower ball joint has to be pressed out and a replacement installed. Then you need to get the vehicle up on a jack stand in order to get everything back together. As far as cost , a lot depends on where the vehicle is . Different parts of the country charge different prices. If you have never done that type work before I would suggest that you have an experienced shop tow it in and do the job. An alignment should be done or at least checked since some parts could have been bent or distorted when it hit the ground.
It would be a good idea to check the other side joint also !

Looks like the cotter pin went missing, allowing the castellated nut to back off or the threaded ball joint stud broke off. No matter. You may be able to press the remains out with a C-Clamp or press. It's a tough job and not a quick job, it'll take a little doing. do the other side, an alignment ... best just flat tow the whole mess to a repair shop.
Looks like a lower ball joint, put another one on. The spring compression will be a bear. Also the dog bone between the A arm and anti-sway will have to be popped back on or replaced.

There probably a lot of unseen stuff bent or no good under there. EVERYTHING that moves needs to be looked at carefully.
