I believe the vehicle has to be going over 5 MPH before the system gets activated. Do you mean it doesn't operate at all even over 5 MPH?

Have you possibly thought of a frozen door lock actuator? If you take the door panel off, you can see what's going on. This will explain why the door does/n't un/lock, and why you probably can't use the key from outside, if I'm getting this correctly.
This isn't hard to figure out, but it will require just some 'looking at the thing' to fix it.

fredastro try this;

1. Make sure anti-theft system is not armed or triggered, ign is OFF and all doors are closed.
2. Turn the ign switch from OFF to RUN.
3. Press the door power unlock button 3 times.
4. Turn the ign switch from RUN to OFF.
5. Press the door power unlock button 3 times.
6. Turn the ign switch back to RUN within 30 seconds of step 2.
7. The horn should chirp once. If not, wait 30 seconds and repeat steps 1 through 6.
8. Press the door power unlock button.
9. Press the door power lock button.
10. The horn will chirp once if the Autolock feature was deactivated, twice (one short chirp followed by a long chirp) if the Autolock feature was activated.
11. Turn the ign switch OFF.
12. The horn will chirp once to confirm that you activated or deactivated the Autolock feature.
Let us know if this helps solve the problem.

Hanky, it was nice to see someone still remembers that fountain of knowledge known as the Owners Manual. It's so rare to see anyone actually read it when there's a problem. Thanks!

Hi Mr. Greasemark,
You mentioned the owner's manual. Isn't that the book you read on the side of the road when the car craps out , but not before ?
Haven't heard from our friend "cougar -fan. I hope all is well with him.
Thank you for all the help you provide, I'm glad you don't charge for instruction or I would have to send you my checkbook.
I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us here. Happy Thanksgiving to You ,Cougar-fan and Hayapower .
Looking forward to your answers. It's nice when you and Hayapower provide the correct answers. It really hurt me to have to admit that too!! Have a good one!

Hanky:
Don't worry about it . I'm wrong just as often as I'm right. Just ask anyone I work with.
I just got done taking the transmission out of a 2011 Fiesta. If these things get any smaller, I'm going to have to use tweezers and forceps to work on them. Of course, I destroyed the rear main crank seal on the uninstall. Oh, the joys of on-the-job training....
Enjoy your Thanksgiving, everyone!
