FINALLY found a truck I REALLY like ~
...and it turned out to be another F-150.
My trusty old 1997 F-150XL RC 4.6, now 244,000 miles on it, still runs good, but I just cannot take a chance of a motor or tranny failure while out on the road with atrailer full of equipment behind it.
I looked at all my options and decided to STAY with an enclosed trailer, pulled with an F-Series (I just like theFord F-Series so much better than anything else out there). I still like the '08 and newer SD's but they are still a little pricey for me, and I prefer to buy used, with low mileage, and let someone else take that first chunk of depreciation, so that will have to wait for a year or so.
I found what I wanted ~
F-150 SCab 4.6 STX - Stone/graphite ~ LOVE the combination of allpower options w/ rubber floors. 4.6, yeah, I know, but that has proven to me to be a GREAT motor. I think that I may even prefer them in a F-150 (I have owned a 5.4 in a 1997 SCab Lariat) as I like their power curve and driveability.
Mods so far -
-Leatherinterior (from an XLT)
-PowerMoonroof
-Clear corner lenses
-Protective clear coating applied to bumpers, lenses, wheels
-Bedliner material (matches Dark Stone body color exactly)applied to door sills, thresholds, rocker panels.
-Bedliner material (black) applied tostep rails
-Bug Deflector
-Side Window deflectors (protective clearcoated)
-Rear Window Graphics (with Business Logo)
This F-150 was manufactured on Norfolk, so I expect it to give me the same kind of dependable service that my old one did.
When I was in this process, I never even looked at Chebby, GM, Dodge, Nissan, or Toyota...lol
I'm happy!
