Intermittent electrical problems with 94 explorer
I have a 1994 Explorer that had no problems (other than the Check Engine dash warning stayin on all the time) until a year ago when the alarm began to go off in the middle of the night. This continued and was joined by the Door Ajar warning also intermittently coming on and staying on when all the doors/hatch/hatch window were closed. Then the overhead light sometimes refused to go off and ran down the battery several times. An after market stereo/CD player began to malfunction, some of the time. Finally, the rear windshield wifer refuses to come on, most of the tim. A few days ago everything started working fine. Then today nothing works right.
I've spent a small fortune on having the problems looked at by several mechanics. Various relays and parts have been replaced without solving the problems.
One mechanic has recently suggested that since several functions in the electrical system are malfunctioning, perhaps the problem is a bad "computer module."
Does this sound reasonable? I've been told that the main computer module is on the firewall, inside the passenger compartment, below the dash on the passenger side of the vehicle. Is this correct?
Thanks for any help you may offer in solving this frustrating enigma.
