Default Need a few opinions on my car...

Hi there, this is my first post(lol popping my cherry) on this forums. Anyways, I recently purchased a 1991 Thunderbird with the 5.0 for $250(got it from the girlfriends parent's, that's why it was so cheap). It's in decent condition, the dashpad is cracked, but i can live with a not-to-par interior. It hasn't truly been ran in about 2-5 years, just sitting up. It's got 140,000 miles on it, but the engine still seems to run good. It definately needs suspension work, new bushings, struts, and maybe springs. All the basic maintenence is necessary(I've already changed oil and filter, got the fuel and tranny filter and fluid to change this w/e). I gotta get the plugs changed, and maybe plug wires, but they seem okay for now. Air filter of course, and 4 new tires. Probably new brake pads, maybe discs too. I don't have much of a budget, as in none right now, lol but i'm going too get a little money soon(as in $200 next month). I had to replace the radiator and freeze plugs. Should I keep it, or sell it? I like the V-8 power, but its a b**** on insurance, being a young male.

Sounds like you got a great deal. I wouldn't drop any money I didn't have into it, if it runs and can pass inspection, don't spend any money on it. It sound like you want to sell it anyways.

I used to have a '93 Mercury Cougar which most people know is the Mercury version of the Tbird. Mine had a HO 5.0 in it. It used to be a pretty bad car with new black paint and dual flowmaster 40's. It sounded good. If you really like it then put money into it just as long as you plan on keepin it. I was about to buy a cold air intake, a chip, and newer rims until overdrive went out and they wanted $2000 for a transmission rebuild when the car was only worth about $1500 so I sold it and bought a '95 F150 (much happier). I guess what im tryin to say is if you love it and want to keep it around then spend some money otherwise save it for a newer car thats worth it.

If you can drive it and is road worthy i would keep it but i wouldn't spend any money on it but if you only paid $200 for it i would see how much i would get for it anything over $200 is a bonus for you and then if you deside to sell try and find something that you don't have to spend any money on or even see if you could swap with someone just see how you go/

Do the brakes and drive it. I don't believe that being a V-8 makes very much difference in the cost of insurance. What makes a difference is coverage, your age, credit score (Yes, credit score), where you live, how many miles you drive, defensive driving class and driving record.

As an example, My wife and I are 57 years old and live out in the country in NY. We have no tickets/accidents and we have full coverage w/$250 deductible on my 2015 F-150 Lariat Super Crew w/3.5L Ecoboost, 2016 Ford Fusion w/1.5L Ecoboost and liability on the 2004 Freestar limited. Our 2010 Lincoln MKZ sets is in the Phoenix, AZ. area, full coverage w/$250 deductible. The Lincoln gets about 500 miles per year on it since we took it to AZ. back in 2012. We pay almost as much for the MKZ by itself than what we do for 3 vehicles in NY. In our case, it all has to do with where the vehicle sets.
