new guy, from Raleigh, w/ 93 ranger
hi! I'm Frank,I live in Raleigh NC. I own a 1993 Ford Ranger STX "supercab" 4.0 with 5 speed. I have owned this truck, since it rolled off the dealer's lot. In fact, I ordered this truck, and waited 2 months for it.
Alas.. I haven't driven this truck very much in the past 12 years. I usually drive it less than 3,000 miles a year. Between the company vehicles, and the motorcycles... the Ranger gets grocery, and take the dogs swimming duties. Needless to say... most of the gaskets and seals leak, but it still retains most of it's fluids.... I loose maybe 1/2 quart of oil between changes.
Fast forward to today. I had the master and slave cylinders for the clutch replaced, and on the way home it did things it had never done.
1) check engine light came on, then off, the on again (repeatedly)
2) the truck was "gutless" , in fact I put it in 5th gear on the interstate, and it was like I threw out an anchor... downshifting into forth, seem to bring back (most of) the grunt
Now, I DID fill the fuel tank after leaving the shop, so there is a chance I did not tighten the cap..... I'll go under the hood to check all the plug wires etc.....but I'm at a loss for the total lack of power, on a truck, than ran so well previously....
Beyond this current hic-cup... I have been quite pleased with this truck... and I really don't drive enough to justify spending MUCH money on her.
