Default new here, looking to buy a f150, help?

I know, i know, im the newbie. anyways, im thinking of buying an F150 from 98-whenever they changed the body style to the new style. (rounded edges). im a toyota guy that is wanting to see if the grass is greener on the other side. i know they typically get 15-20mpg depending on driving conditions, but thats about all i know about them. so i just have some questions.. are they good, reliable vehicles? (my 88 toyota truck has 300,000 miles on it and just popped its head gasket). can F150s compete with that? also a buddy of mine has a f150, and his a/c keeps springing leaks, though its been 'fixed' multiple times at the dealership. is that a common weakness of the F-models? and do they have the cruise control recall that the 99-02 expedition had? thanks
im nick by the way.

The 150 is a good truck,, and I'm sure to get your Toyota to 300k it probably had good service thoughout its life.. Same with the 150, and even more important to verify if your buying a used vehicle to make 'sure' all the services, including trans ect have been completedby a reputable shop at the needed intervals.. What engine are you going to go for? The cruise recall 05S28 would include these trucks.. I see these trucks run in severe duty, usually contractors and such, and other than the normal issue's due to the rough service, many make it easily beyond 200k, some don't, but again dependant on the quality of care as well.. Toyota's are a good rig (had a few myself) but can live a shorter life than yours neglected or run out beyond there limits....

im looking at the 4.6L 150, with a manual tranny (if possible) and a 4x4. my yota actually DIDNT blow a HG, it just overheated and was steamin everywhere until i cleaned the motor. compression is good, yada yada. my families expedition is getting around 18MPG, should i be expecting the same, or better, or worse? thanks. and yeah i know to make sure the maintenance services were all performed by a reputable source, ive heard some horror stories about used cars that werent maintained. thanks for the advice
