Question new member needs some help w/Ranger OD shifting

Hello all, I have a 2001 Ranger Edge I purchased new. I have 115,000 miles on it and drive it everyday. Here is the problem: since the weather got cold here in Pa. the Ranger will not shift into overdrive for 2 1/2 to 3 miles. I have the 410 gears, so my RPM's are up until the truck warms up and finally shifts into OD. This issue just started with the cold weather, and the truck if fine after the initial few miles. Fluid level is fine. Local tranny guy is no help. Do any of you guys ever have or hear of a problem like this? I should also note my gas mileage dropped to 14 mpg. Lousy gas doesn't help matters there!
Thanks, Denny

There are several factors that influence shift scheduling, among them are engine temp, trans fluid temp, trans fluid condition. When was the last time the trans was serviced?

Something you can try, unplug the MAF sensor and see if there is any difference. If no difference most times that eliminates it.
If possible try to have the codes in the computer checked. There may be a history code that might shed some light on the cause.

Thanks Hanky,
My Ford dealer serviced the tranny @ 60,000 miles. Yes, it's about due for another servicing according to Ford. My guy ant the tranny shop feels if it was a filter or fluid issue, all shifting would be affected. Also, I'm not sure I understand unplugging the MAF sensor--"if no difference most times that eliminates it".? Unplugging it and plugging back in will reset something? Sorry I have to plead ignorance on this!
