You need a funnel that goes on the dipstick tube.

This vehicle has a plug and a screw in the bottom of pan. There is a kit that is needed to fill the trans. You can rig up a small electric pump and pump it into the pan. Here is a link to a page that has all the information you need. Sorry admin, it is to another site.

When you fill it and remove the hose, it will run out of the adapter. It will hold close to 12 quarts if it is completely dry. If the torque converter is dry, put in about 4 quarts and start engine for about 1 minute. Install another 2 or 3 quarts and start engine again. This will pump fluid into the converter and fill it up. Then install more fluid until it runs out when you take the hose off. When it slows to a slow drip, install the plug and drive it. You will need to recheck it after it gets the fluid warm.

If I may, there is a quicker way to fill these. With the car cold and off, remove one of the sensors (there are 3 very near the top on the left side), it doesn't matter which one, and pump some fluid in (if you can use anykind of motorized fluid pump or even an old hand actuated 'pumper', so much the better). The point of this IS to overfill it, because it's very, very much easier to drain them then to fill them through the plug at the bottom. Once done, start the car, let it warm a bit (Ford says 80 to 120 degrees, which is about warm enough to put your hand on without getting burnt), then take out the small drain plug in the bottom, and drain the excess (it will come out in a quick drip, which should be about the perfect level). This will be the correct level.
This transmission usually didn't leak too much, but be aware of the rear output shaft leaking into the transfer case (take out the fill plug from the t-case and see if oil gushes out). If it does, then the rear output shaft seal and t-case input shaft seal require replacement. If it slips (especially in 2nd, 3rd, or 5th gears), it needs a rebuild.
