Default won't shift out of 1st gear 2011 ecoboost

this started this morning, i jumped in my truck for work and as i was driving down the road i noticed the rpms running high. i saw it wasn't shifting out of first. i was going to go around the block and head back home and after i stopped at the stop sign and started driving it shifted out of first into second and ran just fine all the way to work.. i use my truck a lot during work and it was running just fine but about an hour before i was going to leave it did it again. it was fine all the way home and my wife and i went out after work and it ran just fine... i cant really find anything online about it. hoping someone has experienced this and could shed some light on whats going on.

Something you might consider,
Since not all malfunctions will cause the check engine light to illuminate even with 2 times, there just might be a code in the vehicle's computer. Places like Autozone will do this for you at no cost. Might be a good idea to have the computer checked for any codes in it's memory. If so, it could help provide some direction where to look.

i have a code reader and checked the truck and found no codes. the truck hasn't had a problem (knock on wood) but still, i want to get to the bottom of this. how long are the codes stored in the computer?

Codes generally will remain in the memory ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,unless,,,,,,,,,,,,in some instances if the vehicle makes 3-4 trips and the problem is no longer, it will remove the code(s).
