2.9 Supercharger?

2.9 Supercharger?
I understand there are aftermarket superchargers available for the early Ford Explorer 4.0 engines. Could one of these units be successfully adapted to a 2.9 engine in a Bronco II? I think the act of installing it could be done without too much problem, but would the 2.9 blow itself up? Mine has a slight cam, a little bit more than an RV cam, but nothing dramatic.

You can adapt an Eaton M-90 S/C to fit your engine with some metal work and plumbing, or modify a KIT to fit. Use a mechanically sound engine and don't push more than 5-7 lbs of boost. However, one would need to know what year your BII is. Is it using MAF or Speed Density for determining fuel delivery? 2.9's used Speed Density thru 1989 except the 1989 California models which were the first MAF model 2.9. 1990 on, all were MAF. Speed Density is another animal all together and is more interesting to force feed.

I personally would go with a 460 conversion with a POSI-TRAC 9" rear and a C-6 auto tranny. The 460 WILL fit under the hood. You'll have to cut the plastic inner fenders to clear the exhaust manifolds and hammer in the upper firewall corners about an inch for the tranny to clear. Plus a few other minor modifications. Change out the front springs and if you have factory A/C, that will have to come out.
