Question Branch off c4 upgrade. Steps to upgrading?

Hello once again audience! I was reading the responses from my last post in regards to the C4 upgrade to an AOD 4-speed. As i am somewhat new to the whole car world (I know quite a bit but it never hurts to learn more right?), I was wondering what steps i'd need to take to upgrade the transmission. I've gathered that I would need to shorten the drive shaft in order to fit. Not that i'm too concerned, but my dash has [P R N D 2 1]. the AOD is a 4-speed so i'm not entirely sure if i need to modify the dash, mess with the shifter, etc. I had little success on the web searching for what to do other than shortening drive shaft. what other kinds of things do i gotta do when swapping transmissions?
thanks again for reading!

A console with a floor shifter might be easiest.

no no no all that ain't needed the only difference on the aod is the marking on the dash it goes like this P R N OD 3 1 and you might not have to shorten the drive shaft
