Ford Maverick. 1970 -->
I was in H.S. when dad and I after dinner one night went down to Glenbrook Ford in Glenview, Illinois to see the NEW 1970 Ford Maverick.
On the showroom floor was a 1970 Ford Maverick in Vermilion Orange with black and white checkered board interior. It had a package tray instead of a glove box, factory rugs on the floor instead of rubber mats, 14 inch wheels with wheel covers instead of 13 inch rims, a big six-200 cu in instead of 160 cu in, automatic, and a full bench front seat~Great on date night.
Out the door that night, tax, title, license $1,920.00 plus I entered a contest to win a Grand Father's clock and a couple of weeks later I had a call saying I won it.
Later I took that car to college and it never really gave a lick of problems with two exceptions.
I did pull the head in the parking lot at Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois and took the bus with the head in my lap to NAPA for a valve job. Picked the head and gasket up a few days later.
No heat. Pulled the inlet hose off between the water pump and heater core and nothing but a dribble came out when the engine was reved up. I put a 12 volt windshield washer pump necked up, inline with this hose and pumped hot water through the core by flipping on a switch on the dash. No big deal but it worked.
