2000 Windstar AC Replacement
My 2000 windstar has always had a so so ac system. I've had it replaced twice over the last 3 years covered under warranty and now thats its out of warranty and now that its getting hot here in Phoenix it just doesn't cool well at all. I dont want to spend another 1200 bucks for another system but thats probably my only option. Any suggestions?

Sounds like the first two repaires were not done properly. I've written numberous times on this Forum on how the A/C system should be "FIXED" after an A/C compressor replacement/failure. If a compressor has failed (normal failure of A/C systems) you need to perform the following.
1. Replace the compressor.
2. Replace the condensor (these are not flushable units).
3. replace the HIGH and LOW pressure lines if they contain "Built-In" mufflers (look like little cans in the lines).
4. Replace the front orifice and rear expansion valve if you also have rear A/C.
5. ALWAYS replace the Dryer/Accumulater any time the A/C system is repaired or opened for anything.
6. Flush the front evaporator and the rear evaporator, lines if you have rear A/C before installing any new components.
7. Add 7 oz. of new oil, 11 oz. if you also have rear A/C. I prefer Polymax2 Refrigerant oil as it is NON-Hygroscopic.
8. Button everything up and pull agood vacuum. Ensure it hold the vacuum for 30 minutes.
9. Add 44 oz. of R-134a, or 56 oz. if you also have rear A/C.
10. You should now have a 100% like new working A/C system in your van.
New parts are redily avaliable on the web and you should be able to get all of the parts required for about $500-600 including any tax and shipping.

No problem.
Here's where I ordered my A/C parts when the A/C dies in my 04 Freestar: A/C Compressor | Evaporator | Fuel Pump | Condenser | Heater Core | Brake Pads
This is where I ordered the in-line filter w/site glass for the HIGH pressure line: A/C IN LINE FILTER
These folks are in your neck of the woods (AMA Automotive Air Conditioning Parts & Equipment - Compressors Condensers Accumulators Expansion Va). Don't know if they do any actual A/C repairs or just provide parts and such. But, you could give them a call. They may even recommend somebody that will DO IT RIGHT.
