Aerostar -87 rear brakes
Failed in yearly inspection due to no power in rear brakes.
Handbrake works well and rear brake cylinders have been replaced
couple of years ago.
Maybe the failure is in rear brake pressure regulator, how does it
work and where is it located in these vans ?
Is it the unit shown in pictures ?

Hello and good day:
You are correct in your photos.
This is the item.
The Brake pressure control valve is designed to provide better front to rear braking balance with heavy brake application. It is mounted on the Driver's side frame rail near the fuel filter..It reduces the pressure allowed to the rear brakes under certain braking operations due to the fact the rear of the vehicle is light and does not require as much braking force.

How does the valve work ? Strange thing is the hose that goes upward and just ends, not attached to anything. Should it be some kind ofvacuum control or what ?
btw there's a thread about similar problems with F-150, https://www.fordforum.com/m_30798/tm.htm

That is not a brake valve. That is the splitter to direct brake fluid to each rear wheel. The hose is a vent for the rear diff.
The best way to locate the restriction to follow the brake line and find each fitting. Loosen a fitting and step on the brake, if the loosened fitting leaks fluid then the restriction is behind that point. It is best to start at the master cyl and work back to the rear wheels.

OMG how could I have been sooooo stupid...I just briefly look at the Photo's and thought they were....Yes that is the Routing Splitter, and Jr78 is right.

The second set of pictures is the brake pressure control valve, and it could be the problem. You just need to loosen lines and see where you are getting pressure and where you are not getting pressure.
[sm=itsok.gif] No problem Sterling. I read the part about the hose coming out of it and decided to look at the picture. I thought this might have RABS and not have a brake valve at all, but that must be for later years.
