Alternators' keep dying on me.. (6 to be exact)
Hello again, I posted the same issue a few months ago, and I'm back for more advice/suggestions.
I had my alternator rebuilt a few months ago, (after purchasing 5 from the auto store/defect exchanges)... I took the advice from others who know more about cars than I do.
It worked great for awhile, and yesterday it finally went dead.
I charged the battery on a slow charger all day while I was at work, got home shut off the van, and it wouldn't restart after sitting 10 mins in the driveway.
The same problem is happening again!! I'm so frustrated.
Any other suggestions that could be causing this to happen?? If it comes down to it, I'll just get one from the Dealership.

do have a gauge or idiot light on your van most common thing to go wrong with almost any alt. is the wiring gets loose or carrodes like nobody's business. if the wires are tight and there isn't any signs of shorting out or bare wires then it probably is the alt. going bad like the voltage control not working like it should.

Hi Peter,
Don't know what year your Windstar is .
In 1999 they incorporated the PCM to control the alternator output in some Windstars.
If you get a remanufactured Ford alternator from Ford It should work OK providing there is no problem in the PCM. Be sure to take your vehicle's VIN (ID #) so they can give you the proper alternator. Let us know how you make out on this, thanks.

Hello Peter, Couple of days I ago I faced same problem but when I checked the wires these were loose. So I tighten it and yes, it fixed the problem and now everything is fine. My suggestion is to check the wiring and fix the problem if any.
